Integral Research Is...

Integral Research (IR) is an emerging approach to mixed methods that is explicitly grounded in Integral Theory and makes use of its post-metaphysical position and its practice of Integral Methodological Pluralism to provide a multi-method approach that weaves together 1st-person, 2nd-person, and 3rd-person methods. IR makes use of multiple methods (qualitative and quantitative) as a way of exploring the multi-faceted and multi-dimensional nature of complex phenomena.

The Integral Research Center...

accomplishes its mission of supporting the global community of Integral scholar-practitioners through a variety of activities including:

  • Research: Doing original research using six methodologies to study the transformative effects of integral education (i.e., the iTEACH project).

  • Grants: Providing $20,000 annually for research grants for graduate students in the online MA in Integral Theory. 

  • Forum: Providing a discussion forum for graduate students interested or doing integral research in their thesis or dissertation; so that a community of the adequate can emerge and inform itself.

  • Courses: Promoting graduate level courses in integral research, online and on campus. 

  • Fieldwork: Promoting Integral Field Studies courses that provide individuals with an opportunity to practice real time applications of integral principles and methods and bear witness to grassroots organizations utilizing “Folk” Integral approaches in the global south.

  • Resources: Supporting scholar-practitioners through the providing of various resources (e.g., articles, charts, examples, case studies, lists of methods, ways to synthesize and integrate data).

  • Journal: Publishing academic articles and original research through special issues of Journal of Integral Theory and Practice.

  • Conference: Every two years John F. Kennedy University will host with Integral Institute an academic conference that provides researchers a chance to present their findings, methods, and ideas around integral research.

 

Integral Theory Overview

The world has never been so complex as it is right now—it is mind boggling and at times emotionally overwhelming. Not to mention, it only seems to get more complex and cacophonous as we confront the major problems of our day: religious fundamentalism, environmental degradation, failing education systems, and volatile financial markets. Never have there been so many disciplines and worldviews to consider and consult in addressing these issues: a cornucopia of perspectives. But without a way of linking, leveraging, correlating, and aligning these perspectives, their contribution to the problems we face are largely lost or compromised. We are now part of a global community and we need a framework—global in vision and anchored in the minutia of our daily lives—that can hold the variety of valid perspectives that have something to offer our individual efforts and collective solution building.

John F. Kennedy University is located in Pleasant Hill, California. JFKU features undergraduate-completion, doctorate, and graduate degrees, teaching credential, certificate, and continuing education programs in five schools: Education and Liberal Arts, Professional Psychology, Holistic Studies, Management, and Law.

The School of Holistic Studies houses two programs devoted to the study of Integral Theory: the campus-based Integral Psychology Program and the online Integral Theory Program.

The Integral Psychology Program is the premiere campus-based scholarship community for completing a graduate degree using the Integral model. The Master of Arts in Integral Psychology in the School of Holistic Studies is a 68 quarter-unit program designed to inspire and educate the next generation of integrally informed global-leaders. The program explores the complexity of the human psyche using the Integral (AQAL) model as its guiding framework. With an experiential and academically rigorous approach to teaching, students learn about the psychological relationships within and between body, mind, and spirit in self, culture, and nature.

The Integral Theory Certificate Program is a 48-week online program offering one of the world’s first accredited certificates based on the Integral Model developed by Ken Wilber. It is the most robust training in Integral Theory available today. The courses, taught by leading Integral scholar-practitioners, deliver a practical and theoretical foundation in all-important aspects of the Integral Model. It also serves as the first year of the Masters of Integral Theory program. Students have the option to transfer into the second year of the MA after completing the Certificate.

 

Integral Institute

Integral Institute, a non-profit organization, functions as the world's premier "think-and-practice tank" for Integral research and applications. Its mission is to integrate the most research from the most number of disciplines—including the natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics, etc.), art, ethics, religion, psychology, politics, business, social theory, and spirituality.

Integral Institute envisions a world in which the knowledge and capacities of our collective humanity are increasingly brought to bear upon our most difficult problems—and our highest possibilities. Integral Institute's core assumption is that by helping individuals, companies, organizations, governments, NGOs, and communities become Integrally informed, they will be better able to effectively chart their courses, making wiser decisions today and in the future; develop successful, breakthrough strategies to solve their most critical problems; more strategically mobilize their resources to implement desired solutions—and thus contribute to dramatically improving the quality of life on this planet.
